Aras Gökten “Arkanum”
In “Arkanum“ he deals with the subject of man`s relationship to its urban environment and architecture. In a similar way like Godard’s movie “Alphaville“, a logic city built and controlled by the Alpha 60 computer, the photographer work is about an artificially constructed city of the future that stands in stark contrast to nature. The city cores of different major cities in Germany built the stage for this work. But also places like trade fairs, outlet center, shopping malls and airports. The motifs in part refer to real places, but they primarily serve to inspire fictitious, inner images.
Aras Gökten born in South Germany, he has studied Sports and Economy first and worked as a media consultant for several years. After studies of photography at Fotoakademie Cologne and Ostkreuzschule Berlin. Participant of a master class with Antoine d`Agata. Graduated 2014 at Ostkreuzschule / Prof. Ute Mahler with his thesis „Arkanum“.
He had several exhibitions in France and Germany and was participant of the artist residency programm in Deauville/ Planche(s) Contact 2014. His interests lie in the post-human developments of our time and the dualism between man and nature. Confronting today’s urban structures his images create surreal and strange atmospheres without following a strict narrative. While his photographic work oscillates between documentation and fiction he raises questions about the human condition of our time and the future.
